I love to sing. Nothing makes me happier than making a joyful noise. And the month of May is made of music.
I know, I know "don't quit your day job". And I wouldn't want to, matching people with places is what I was meant to do. I am an amateur songstress and I am blessed to sing with both professional and amateur musicians on a weekly basis. Because I joined my chorus 23 years ago, I have had the honor of singing with American musical greats like Peter Seeger, Fontella Bass & Taj Mahal. In the past 25 years, the Lafayette Inspirational Ensemble has sung for dignitaries such as Bishop Desmond Tutu, Bill Clinton & Nelson Mandela. And in 2007 we were in a documentary produced by Phil Donahue called Body of War.
On Sunday, May 15 at 4:00pm, the Lafayette Inspirational Ensemble will have our 25th Annual Spring Concert. And on the 21st, my favorite parade, THE DANCE PARADE, will by wending their way from the Flatiron District to Tompkins Square Park. My friend Yana was one of the founders of the parade which started out as a protest of the Cabaret Laws, but now is also a beautiful multicultural event.

Spend an afternoon in Fort Greene with one of the most joyful gospel groups to sing together for the last quarter century. In one of the most beautiful churches in Brooklyn, the Lafayette Avenue Presbyterian Church, home to Irondale Theater. Tickets $25, Seniors $15

DANCING IN THE STREETS
May 21, 1:00pm
Prepare to "Oooo" and "Aahhh" as if you were watching fireworks. From Bollywood to Box Step, Flamenco to Flagger, Hip-hop to Hustle, these dancers will dazzle you with outlandish outfits, and marvelous music, but mostly their movement.
from 3:00 to 7:00pm
Post-parade join the dancers and spectators alike for a celebration of music & dance at the DANCEFEST 2016.
